thanks so much for the help Reddit! Honestly, I thought posting on Reddit would backfire, but it's actually helping my cause! Today, me, tomorrow, you guys!ĮDIT: A lot of people don’t seem to understand that this is purely for personal usage and NOT a company server. Any tips on these things? I'm thinking if a few could help out, and maybe draft up short letters of their own explaining how they feel there's no technical basis for termination, I could get through this. I'm currently writing out my academic appeal now. I was wrongfully terminated and denied my diploma with no technical basis to qualify a Gross Negligence requirement as set out in the Employment Standards Act of the Province of Ontario, Canada. ![]() I can understand if I had drive mapping enabled - but what if the session does nothing but pass mouse clicks and screen images back and forth?Īlso, what would be the safest "kosher" method of accessing a server across an insecure medium such as the Internet, without compromising either remote or local network security? But, isn't that the same with any application? Is it not also "theoretically possible" that simple applications such as ping and nslookup can also be exploited in the same way? Is it possible to compromise a network by having a user with an open terminal connection to an external outside machine? It was demonstrated to me that, in theory, it is possible, via means not explained to me, to compromise a network in this case. Local account has domain admin privileges (and a plethora of additional privileges - yes I know I faltered on that one, should have used a non-privileged account) Windows Server 2008 R2 is the server machine Not using NLA authentication (obviously) Not using a vpn - Direct-to-public IP connection Īll "forwarding" features, such as printers, drives, clipboard, audio, etc. I was "terminated without appeal" with only 24 hours remaining due to perceived compromisation of the placement network. I was recently denied my diploma in a computer networking program due to a perceived issue with utilizing mstsc to connect to my server at home to do schoolwork while at a work placement. (Crosspost from AskReddit - got buried among the masses) Thanks so much to anyone who even offers suggestions it's been a pain trying to sort through all the outdated threads and complex pricing and "contact us" quotes.Įdit: thanks so much for the suggestions everyone! nice to see such a response! We don't need a quick simple way for end users to install, we need a reliable way to keep the system monitored and accessible. ![]() We would primarily be using it for unattended access or remote support on preconfigured devices. What remote control/access/desktop software do you use or recommend, and how has your experience been? Really would rather not have to play the firewall and IP game either btw, as some devices are moved between networks. ConnectWise so far has been nice but the iOS app is horrible and I still feel like the pricing is high. ![]() So I guess AnyDesk changed their plans (for the worse) and TeamViewer is the same awfulness as usual despite having maybe the most robust software.
